Beyond the hype: A debate on AI, regulation and risk

AI has become an everyday business tool. Staff are using generative AI to draft, analyse and make decisions, often faster than internal policies can keep up. At the same time, the regulatory picture is shifting. The EU AI Act is being phased in and amended, the UK continues its regulator-led approach, and organisations operating across both markets face overlapping and sometimes diverging expectations.

Policies alone will not close that gap. Much of the real risk sits with the people using these tools every day, which makes effective training one of the strongest controls an organisation has. Regulators increasingly expect organisations to show that their people understand the risks, not simply that a course was completed.

Join a panel of AI and compliance experts for a dynamic discussion on where AI stands today and what organisations need to do now. The panel will debate the real risks and opportunities of AI in the workplace, unpack the legislation affecting UK organisations and those with an EU presence, and look ahead to what is coming next and how to prepare.

  • Where does AI adoption stand now? Is there a gap between the hype and day-to-day use?

  • The EU AI Act explained: what applies now, what has been delayed, and how it reaches UK organisations selling into or operating in the EU

  • The UK approach: regulator-led oversight, data protection and automated decision-making. Is dedicated AI legislation coming?

  • Shadow AI and your staff: acceptable use policies, confidentiality and data leakage risks

  • Governance and accountability: who owns AI risk, board oversight, and what regulators expect to see evidenced

  • AI literacy and training: how can you build the skills and judgement your workforce needs to use AI safely, and measure whether your training is working?

  • Looking ahead: agentic AI, liability and the practical steps to take before the next wave hits
