Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) manages a number of products that utilise complex instruments, including OTC derivatives, as part of the overall investment strategy. As ASI continues to invest heavily in the platform that supports this investment activity, a vacancy for a 12 month fixed term contract role has arisen within the Complex Asset Pricing Team, which is part of the Oversight & Control department.

 

The Complex Asset Pricing Team, within the wider Operations function, is a key component of the Aberdeen Standard Investments control infrastructure, providing support and oversight to the pricing of complex asset classes.

 

The team is responsible for the global asset pricing governance framework, including pricing policies and pricing committees. The team acts as subject matter experts for OTC derivatives, listed equities and public and private debt, including illiquid bonds and private placements. The team also provide independent oversight of OTC derivative valuations.

Role Purpose

 

You will be part of a team of nine specialists with expertise in OTC and exchange traded derivatives (covering credit, interest, inflation, equity and FX derivatives), asset and fund pricing, and the valuation of debt instruments and other ‘hard to price’ assets. Working combining a blend of both service delivery and project work, you will play a key role in the development and continuous improvement of our processes, controls and reporting deliverables.

Great communication and relationship building skills are required to manage relationships with front office, outsourced providers, counterparties, regulators, trustees and other internal departments. This is a technically demanding role which will provide you with an in-depth knowledge of the complex asset pricing operations environment.

As well as the above you will also:

  • Maintain oversight of asset valuations provided by external suppliers, with a focus on risk based oversight and detailed checks over more complex assets using independent sources.
  • Complete daily, monthly and annual OTC derivatives valuation checks – IFRS, Solvency II and SORP compliant valuations and disclosures.
  • Assess the best market practice for complex asset valuation, identifying where changes in methodology may be required and managing the implementation of change to valuation models – informing and educating stakeholders of required changes.
  • Work with our Business Technology and Information Services teams to specify, test and implement both internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Develop a continuous improvement of procedures and controls to support OTC derivatives trading and administration.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with strategic clients, including delivering data and reporting in line with agreed service levels.
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with our suppliers, attend service review meetings and measure performance.

Skills/Experience

 

To be successful in appointment of this role we are looking for you to have:

  • Detailed knowledge of complex asset and OTC derivative valuation methodologies across a broad range of instrument types.
  • Good understanding of fund accounting and the investments operations environment – Middle and Back Office
  • Derivative operations experience and a detailed knowledge of OTC and exchange-traded derivatives instruments
  • Knowledge of ISDA agreements, term sheets and complex asset trade confirmations.
  • Understanding of the required control framework within investment operations.
  • Good understanding of investments, funds, and the regulatory environment and market developments affecting complex asset pricing.
  • Knowledge of issues around LIBOR Discontinuation would be advantageous.

Qualifications

 

Degree level qualification in subject with significant analytical content – economics, accountancy, financial or mathematical related field.
