the lang cat

How often do we get together in Scotland to discuss the issues we face as an industry here?

Not often enough. That’s why the lang cat, Leith’s leading independent financial services consultancy, is so proud to announce our inaugural Scottish conference: the lang cat Home Game. If, like us, you’ve ever wondered why you sit in conferences in London next to a load of folk you just travelled with from Scotland to London then this is the event for you.

Whatever the politics of the moment – and we’ll get into that – Scotland remains absolutely central to the UK’s long-term savings and investments sector. And we do it in style.

So at this event we’ll look at the challenges the sector faces, for sure, but also celebrate its successes. We’ll hear from regulators, political experts, fintech gurus, and in one of the highlights of the afternoon, an adviser panel filled with the people who have to make sense of what the sector manufactures for clients. The issues we discuss may not be uniquely Scottish in every case – but we think it’ll feel good to discuss them Here rather than There.

We’ll start releasing the agenda over the coming days and weeks, but for now we’re happy to tell you that joining us on the day will be:

  • Maggie Craig, Head of the FCA in Scotland, on the FCA's ramp up in the Scottish market and what's in its business plan for the year ahead
  • Anthony Rafferty, MD of Scottish fintech fulcrums Origo, on a ‘returner’s’ perspective on the Scottish sector
  • John Rowland, executive director of Cicero, on the political environment and its impact on the Scottish FS sector
  • Adrian Murphy, highheidyin at Murphy Wealth in Glasgow
  • Lisa Johnstone, MD of VWM Wealth

The Home Game will take place in the beautiful penthouse of the DoubleTree by Hilton Conference Centre on Bread Street, Edinburgh. This stunning room gives uninterrupted views to the Castle, to Fife, to the Pentlands and of course to the face of whichever speaker happens to be up at that particular moment.

We’d love to welcome you from 12.45pm for a 1.15pm start, and the event will wrap up at 5.15pm. There will be drinks and a barbecue (on the terrace if it’s nice) straight afterwards.

We’re limited to 80 tickets, so don’t hang around. We’ve set the price at £183.50 + VAT per ticket. Why? Well, on the day we decided to run the conference we looked at the cost of a ‘booked train only’ first class return ticket to London from Edinburgh, and that’s what it cost. So you get a great conference in a beautiful setting, along with feeding and watering, for the price of a trip down the road. Click on the link below to register and pay.

We hope to see you there.
