Holly Granger
Cash Monitoring Assistant
Aberdeen Asset Management
Tell me about what you do?
My team is split into two separate areas - I work in the cash control team which involves monitoring the offshore funds that are overdrawn. I've basically got to investigate why a fund is overdrawn and who is responsible for allowing that to happen and ensuring that the matter is being resolved.
What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
I enjoy being able to solve complex problems for other colleagues like fund managers and third party administrators. Also I like speaking to different people; I get to speak to people in Fort Lauderdale and Sydney as I have to phone custodians. So it is nice to be able to talk to people from across the world.
I've actually recently been promoted and I'll be taking over a new job as static data supervisor soon. I'll be responsible for another member of staff, developing supervisory skills, which is nice because it's something I've never done before. I didn't seek the promotion so it's nice to have the confirmation that the company thinks I'm doing a good job and could look after somebody else.
What impact has this job had on your lifestyle?
The social aspect of the company is excellent. We have a social committee and there are events like quiz nights and pub-crawls. Every Friday night you can guarantee that somebody will be in the local pub.
What would you say to others considering a career in Investment Operations?
I would say that it is a good industry to get into, and that you don't have to have a degree to get into it. Also I think there are some excellent opportunities as it is a very diverse and changing sector.
